This painting was an experiment in the idea of looking through one thing, the pile of cubes, to see another. As you look through of the three sets of sides of the cubes, left, right and top (or perhaps bottom) you see a different pattern, that is drawn so that it is theoretically continuous throughout the entire painting, but most of it is hidden by the foreground plane of cubes. In addition the cubes either pop out or tuck in, depending on what your eyes see at any given moment.
