Downtown Boulder, particularly on the Pearl St. Mall is full of early 19th century buildings, many of which have arts and crafts style rooflines like the ones in this painting.

Beside the architectural interest this piece has a certain abstract quality, with it's sharp angular spaces all in a given color, but with the angles in relationship to each other.
