These paintings are a natural follow on to my series of paintings of women weight lifters. When I felt I'd had enough of lifters I thought for a while about what would in some sense be the opposite of weightlifting. It struck me that women athletes in the air, defying gravity, would be an interesting extension of that original idea. These are paintings of strong, powerful women, doing what they do extremely well.
