| In one sense this painting arose directly out of the previous one, Flower Maze. I became fascinated with the "hanging" panels in that painting and wanted to construct an entire building where everything "hung" on the piece below just by the corners, creating a building where 1/2 of the walls and ceiling were missing. Then to make it more interesting I figured our how to draw a 16 sided figure in perspective. I was in a somewhat sombre mood at the time, so the predominant gray tone just made sense. Probably the "darkest" painting I've done in a long time. |
